The penultimate round of the inaugrual GT2 World Series season took place at the Kyoto Grand Touring custom layout.  My3id Gaming took a 30 point lead into this race, and was simply looking to keep that very safe margin into the final round at the tight and tricky South City Long track.  My3id took pole for the 4th time of four this season, leaving everyone behind to fight for the scraps.

The midpoint round of the 2011 GT2 World Series season took place at the newly-created Blackwood Historic configuration.  The track is like the normal Blackwood, just without the  opening sector chicane, making the main straight a long, flat out run.   The usual problems remain though, the tight confines making lapping difficult and the short lap and somewhat high kerbs.

The first and so far only Safety Car of the season came out early on, when it appeared that the Conquest Racing 2 car rolled out of turn 2 and would not settle on its boots.  Several marshals and admins saw the car still on it's roof, but others saw it back onto its wheels.  The Safety Car was called nonetheless and ended quickly, sending the field back to racing.

My3id Gaming took their second win of the season over both ineX Racing cars, leaving My3id with a 30 point lead in the championship going into the final two rounds.  The series heads next to Kyoto, Japan for 3 hours at the Kyoto Grand Touring custom layout circuit, scheduled for October 8th.

The third from last round of the LFSCART series, also the penultimate road course round was held in Jamaica on the weekend of the 13th of August.  Fern Bay Gold Reversed was the circuit, a track that is narrow and twisty, be it forward or reversed.  Again, championship contenders Robbin Heijerman and Sebastian Hutchinson missed this round, leaving an opportunity for the chasers to catch; including Jarl Teien, Simon Cattell, Sampsa Jurvansuu and others in that area to close the gap.

The season finale was held at its traditional location of Kyoto, Japan, but not at the traditional circuit.  Past seasons ended on the Oval Reversed, this season ended on the long and challenging Kyoto Grand Prix Long Circuit, with boothy chicane.  Forty-four laps were scheduled, making this race a long and challenging one.  Four drivers came into the round with a decent shot at the title: Jarl Teien, Robbin Heijerman, Simon Cattell, and Sampsa Jurvansuu. Jurvansuu needed a win and the others to finish mid-pack or worse, while the others were all very close together.   A cracker of a race was on tap.

LFSCART 2011: Round 8 Results
Written by New Dimension Racing

The third and final oval race of the LFSCART season took place at the Kyoto Oval Reversed, for 310 miles.  Usually the last round of the season, this event has now taken a place as the second to last round of the season.  The race being a bit of a lottery, would make it critical for the championship contenders to run cleanly and finish at the sharp end of the field to keep their hopes alive into the finale.

Simon Cattell was dropped to the back after early race troubles, and needing a high finish to stay alive, charged forward through the run to end up in the top 5 with about 20 laps remaining.  Sure lock for the title, Jarl Teien just needed a finish to stay alive, but a higher finish would have kept him in the lead.  However, his oval bad luck came when he least needed it, finishing behind his closest contenders.

Cattell would win the race in a 3-lap sprint with a brilliant bit of defensive driving on the last lap, with Robbin Heijerman arriving second.  The race ran the first half caution-free, but the second half saw many cautions.  The race ran at a respectable average speed of 149.247 mph  despite the many late-race cautions.

The series finale is on September 3rd, from Kyoto Grand Prix Long with the Boothy Chicane.
