Qualifying for the Kyoto 250 is on March 14th, and it's not a simple fastest start in the order they're fast in. It's a three-stage process to sort the grid for the event. Click Read more to find out all about qualifying for this year's Kyoto 250.
The 2010 Kyoto 250 Qualifying day is on March 14th, 2010. It consists of a hotlap session followed by two 115-mile races. The grid is set in three stages.
After the quaifying session, the top two are locked in and will start the Kyoto 250 in first and second.
The field is split into two. Drivers who qualified in odd positions (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th etc) will race in Twin 115 Race 1, and drivers who qualified in even positions (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th etc) will race in Twin 115 Race 2. Race 1 sets the inside file of the grid, Race 2 sets the outside file. The polesitter for Race 1 is the 250 polesitter. The polesitter for Race 2 is the driver slated for the outside of the front row. These drivers will not count in any further grid setting calculation.
The top 11 finishers of each Twin 115 will start on that order in their respective file. As the polesitter for each Twin is not counted into that decision, the "bubble" position can be 12th or 11th, depending on where the pole car is. Any driver finishing outside the top 11 will go into the pool for provisionals, the final 6 places on the grid. The provisional pool drivers will be sorted by their qualifying hotlap, and the top 6 get in.
In the event a driver cannot make the race and withdraws after qualifying has been completed, drivers in the provisional pool will be promoted in to fill the grid. See the PDF document embedded below for a visual explanation.
Qualifying starts with hotlaps at 15:00 UTC on March 14th. Race 1 will start at 16:25 UTC OR 20 minutes after the hotlap session ends, whichever comes later. Race 2 will start at 17:45 UTC OR 15 minutes after the first Twin 115, whichever comes later. The Twin 115 milers are 60 laps after 2 pace laps, and there is a mandatory green-flag pitstop.
